Redaction is permanent once you download: the covered pixels are replaced, so the original content underneath is gone in the saved file (unlike a black rectangle placed on top in a PDF or document, which can sometimes be removed). Pixelation of small text can occasionally be reversed — for anything truly sensitive, use a solid black box. Metadata is stripped because the image is re-encoded from the canvas.
